Who is allowed to install an EV charger?

Installation must be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) licensed by the Energy Market Authority. The charger must also be certified by an equipment specialist before it can be registered.

Do EV chargers need to be registered?

Yes. All EV chargers must be registered with the Land Transport Authority before they can be used. After registration, a registration mark must be affixed to the charger.

Where can EV chargers be installed in residential properties?

Private car parks
Designated parking lots in residential developments

Are portable EV chargers allowed?

Portable (non-fixed) chargers are generally only allowed in landed homes and are not permitted in non-landed properties like condominiums.

Is approval needed for EV chargers in condominiums?

Yes. Installation typically requires:

Compliance with electrical and safety regulations
Some government grants may also help offset installation costs for shared chargers.

Are there penalties for using unregistered chargers?

Yes. Using or supplying non-approved chargers may lead to fines or penalties under the EV Charging Act.
